On Saturday 14th April 2018 the biggest night on the Ghana music calendar, the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre to reward excellence in the music industry.

The event which is themed as “Music Beyond Borders”, will have industry players and other dignitaries converge to celebrate Ghana music and the major achievements in the year under review.

With all the buzz gathering before the main event, we know fans would be wishing their artiste wins the awards they deserve. We at dawuroGH.com have decided to put our prediction cap on and predict who will win what at the 2018 VGMAs.

AFRO-POP SONG OF THE YEAR

This category is packed with a lot of bangers that kept us dancing yearlong but we think it is between Sponsor by Ebony and Oh Yeah by King Promise. Eventually Sponsor by Ebony is the favourite amongst the two for us so it will win this category

HIPLIFE SONG OF THE YEAR

There are a lot of good songs in this category and any one of them can win it but one song which dominated the air waves for very long and even crossed borders to our neighbouring countries. The song is none other than One Corner by Patapaa and we are banging all our hopes on it to win this category.

HIPHOP SONG OF THE YEAR

Grind Day Remix by Kwesi Arthur feat. Sarkodie & Medikal is likely to win ahead of Pen and Paper by Ko-jo Cue & Shaker and Dear God by B4Bonah.

HIGHLIFE SONG OF THE YEAR

It is a straight battle between the two label mates, Odo by Kidi and Angela by Kuami Eugene but we think Kuami Eugene’s Angela will be the favourite to win this category. Bronya from Wutah might prove a surprise.

GOSPEL SONG OF THE YEAR

This category is between Bo Noo Ni by Joe Mettle and Obi Nyanime by Patience Nyarko. Bo Noo Ni is likely to win it.

REGGAE/DANCEHALL SONG OF THE YEAR

It is a straight win for My Own by Samini. The highly lyrical ”My Name” by Stonebwoy is also a strong contender for the title.

HIPLIFE/HIPHOP ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

Sarkodie is the favourite to win this category although Kwesi Arthur and Captain Planet as a solo artiste had a very good year.

HIGHLIFE ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

All the nominees in this had a good year but the favourite to win it is Kidi.

GOSPEL ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

Joe Mettle has the edge over the other nominees in this category.

REGGAE/DANCEHALL ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

This award is between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. We believe Shatta Wale will make triumphant return to the event which he has been absent from in the past years. He will win this category.

BEST COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR

Taking Over by Shatta Wale feat. SM Militants will win this category.

BEST RAPPER OF THE YEAR

TeePhlow and Eno Barony have had a very good year and each one deserves it but Sarkodie will nab this award which eluded him last year.

MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR

All the nominees in this category are potential winners because they sang their hearts out with their silky voice the year under review but we are going to stick our neck out for King Promise.

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR

It is likely Adina will make it two in a row in this category as she won it last year and would win it again this year.

RECORD OF THE YEAR

This is one difficult category to predict but the likeliest to win is My Own by Samini. Glory by Sarkodie feat Yung L is also a strong contender for this category.

SOUND ENGINEER OF THE YEAR

This award will go to Jayso for his work he did on Sarkodie’s Glory

SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR

Bullet – Maame Hwɛ(Ebony) will win the award for this category.

BEST GROUP OF THE YEAR

Wutah reunited and had a very splendid year, they are the favourites for this category.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR

The award for this category will go to Selfish by King Promise (directed by Vertex)

BEST NEW ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

This is arguably the most competitive category among the bunch but there must be winner and we are rooting for King Promise to win although Kidi or Kuami Eugene might pull up a surprise.

AFRICAN ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

I wouldn’t be a surprise if it goes to either one of our Nigerian brothers but Davido is likely to win it this time, even though Tiwa Savage will perform this year (winners of this category for the past years  has mostly been those who perform at the event)

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Stonebwoy’s Epistles of Mama is undoubtedly the hottest album amongst the category and will definitely win it.

SONG OF THE YEAR

This is another difficult category to predict as all the songs there were big and kept fans entertained throughout the year. We are torn between One Corner by Patapaa and Taking Over by Shatta Wale feat SM Militants. It looks like another win for Patapaa (One Corner).

ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

Now the ultimate category that crowns the night. All the artiste there deservedly needs to be there but there will be only one winner and that would be Ebony for all her work she put in the year under review to keep fans dancing to her tunes. Any other artiste that is close to winning it is Shatta Wale.
